China paper splashes nation's 'first gay marriage'

The official press splashed a front-page photo of the first publicly "married China's" gay couple on Wednesday - the latest sign of new openness about homosexuality in a country where it has long been taboo.

The page and a story in English-language China Daily featured a photo of the "newlyweds" arm in arm at a ceremony Jan. 3.

Anquan Zeng, 45, and Pan Wenjie, 27, tied the knot in a gay bar in the southwestern city of Chengdu, the newspaper said, calling it "the first public demonstration in the country."

Homosexuality remains a sensitive topic in China.It was officially regarded as a form of mental illness as recently as 2001. The same-sex marriages or civil unions have no legal basis.

"We can not be concealed any longer. Marriage is our happiest and most precious time, "Zeng, a divorced architect, told the newspaper.

"Thousands of gays and lesbians to marry in France, Finland, the United Kingdom. Why can not we? "

Although the vast majority of gay men in China are still in the closet, a number of signs have emerged recently that official attitudes may be softening.

There aren’t any hard and fast rules stating that you must have a traditional wedding cake. What if you and your guy don’t like cake or think the idea of a traditional tiered wedding cake is overdone? If this is the case or you are just looking for an extra way to sneak in some sweets, we have a few different ideas for you.

Assorted Dessert Table

Many couples are opting to host a dessert table instead of presenting a large wedding cake. Typically in this case the bride and groom will cut one small ceremonial cake and then the guests can visit a dessert table. The tables are filled with several different flavored pies, tarts, cupcakes, and cookies.

You can even go with a theme at your dessert table by choosing desserts that help reflect the season. Pumpkin pies and apple dumplings would be perfect choices for a dessert table at an autumn wedding.

Chocolate Bar

Another dessert alternative is to set up a chocolate bar. Place one of those beautiful chocolate fountains in the center of a table. Then around the fountain place several different trays and fill them with different things to be dipped. Terrific ideas would be large chunks of fresh fruit, graham crackers, cubes of cheesecake, and marshmallows. Place popsicle sticks out to be used as dippers and pretzel rods also! Be sure to have personalized napkins  for guests to catch any drips with.

Build Your Own Crepes

Work with your caterer to set up stations where servers place the batter onto the griddle and once done, your guests can select from different bowls with what they would like placed on their crepe. Fill bowls to the brim with different fruits such as fresh berries, cherries, and slices of banana. Other bowls can be filled with things like chocolate chips and small candies like mini-kisses or m&m’s. Guests can also pile their crepe high with things like cool whip, and maple or chocolate syrup. Don’t forget to include a plate with butter as well.

American wedding and dresses again?

Someone from the feedback I was asked not to wear a red sari for an American marriage. Intense color is not acceptable for a wedding? The reason I ask is because I have a yellow sari very elegant (my husband says it reminds him of the Hindu priests) and I want to wear to the wedding. I do not really like what my husband I love him and if acceptable, I'll wear if I'm going to switch to other soft colors or darker.
Thank you for your advice.

the person who tells you that has no idea about things than that. I would not wear a red sari if the bride knows the whole tradition of Indian marriage. It would be like someone wearing a white dress for the wedding, trying to outshine the bride, except that it would be a different culture. The yellow saree is perfect though.

Depends on what type of wedding it is. You never want to be under-dressed, and you never want to try to get better when the bride! I am assuming you are a friend of the couple, so they should be aware of your heritage and should not be a problem with you, dress traditionally! A completely held May be too red for a wedding, but the color is a good thing! You can not wear white, and if everybody was black, it will look like a funeral!

Red or yellow, wear what you feel is appropriate. Believe me, these days everyone wears everything and anything. More if (red or saffron) is traditional to your culture, then wear it.
Silly question, how close you are to the bride and her family? Why not ask them their opinion ... Tell them you do not want to offend them and you can wear anything, but it is traditional in your culture.
If you were my friend and I wore that you'd be proud to show you can .... and not what we think you should be.
At my wedding everyone was barefoot!(We got married on Daytona Beach) Few people can say they went to a wedding barefoot or they had to undress partially (shoes and hose!) For!
